Remote Working Relief
Worked from home? Claim back part of your electricity, heating and broadband for every year still open.
2022 refunds close on 31 December 2026

Who it's for
- Employees who worked from home under an arrangement with their employer
- People who paid their own electricity, heating or broadband bills
- Hybrid workers, even if only one or two days a week at home
What you can claim
Take your yearly electricity, heating and broadband bills, multiply by the days you worked from home and divide by the days in the year. 30% of that, less any remote working allowance your employer paid, is allowable. Relief is given at your highest rate of tax.
Only days you actually worked from home count. Weekends, public holidays you did not work, annual leave and evenings catching up on work are left out. Shared bills are split by what each person paid.
Laptops, office furniture and other equipment are not covered by this relief.
Good to know
- Your employer can pay up to €3.20 a day tax-free. If they paid less than your costs, you can claim the difference.
- Broadband in a TV bundle? Revenue accepts a reasonable estimate of the broadband part.
| Step | Amount |
|---|---|
| Electricity, heating and broadband for the year | €1,890.00 |
| × 50 days worked from home ÷ 365 days | €258.90 |
| × 30% = allowable cost | €77.67 |
| Tax relief at 40% | €31.07 |
