Who it's for

  • People who maintain a relative who cannot support themselves because of age or illness
  • Anyone supporting a widowed parent, or a parent who is a surviving civil partner
  • Anyone aged 65 or over in the tax year, or whose spouse is

What you can claim

Dependent Relative Tax Credit for a relative of yours or your spouse who cannot maintain themselves, as long as their income is under the limit for the year (it includes social welfare and pensions). The relative does not need to live in Ireland. If several people maintain them, the credit is split.

Age Tax Credit if you or your spouse are 65 or over in the tax year. It should be given automatically, but it can be missing if your date of birth is not on your Revenue record.
